Baking
I love all kinds of baking and cooking.
I will share some of the baking here with receipts.
I will post the internet links for those receipts.
Some are my own creations or that I received from Family and Friends.
Enjoy
Milktart (in Afrikaans Melktert)
I told my friend in South Africa that I crave "Melkter."
Her daughter bakes this for them and sends the receipt to me.
The receipt is easy to follow, and you can make it in the Microwave.
Never thought of doing that, and I just love it!
Here's the Receipt:
Microwave Milktart / Mikrogolf Melktert
Ingredients:
1 Can Condensed Milk
1 Can milk
4 eggs
2 Cans of warm water
2 tablespoons soft butter
6 tablespoons Maizena
Pinch of salt
1 pk of biscuits (optional). I did mine without the biscuits
Instructions:
You can mix everything together except the biscuits.
But...I have mixed it as follows.
I used my hand mixer!
1. Mixed the Condense Milk and eggs together.
2. Mixed the butter, warm water, Maizena, and salt.
3. Whisk and Microwave for 7 minutes on high. Take out, whisk again, and Microwave for 5 minutes.
4. Take out, whisk again, and Microwave for 3 minutes. Whisk again!
5. Pack tennis biscuits in a bowl, spread the mixture over, and sprinkle cinnamon over.
I have spread the mixture in a glass bowl without a layer of biscuits.
Cut in squares and enjoy with your Tea or Coffee.

Buttermilk Rusks / Karingmelk Beskuit
Or like we say in Afrikaans (dip n Ouma)
My sister always baked these tasty rusks.
About 3 months before she passed away, I asked her for the recipe.
Every time I make it, I also dip one for her.
Miss her so much!
You eat the rusks with your tea or coffee.
You dip the rusks in the tea or coffee, then eat the rusks.
That's why we say (dip n Ouma) (dunk a grandmother).
Here's the recipe:
Buttermilk Rusks / Karingmelk Beskuit
Ingredients:
6 Big cups of cake-flour
2 eggs whisks
500ml Buttermilk
6 full teaspoons of baking powder (not scraped)
1 cup Sugar
250g margarine
pinch of salt
Instructions:
1. Rub the margarine in the flour, baking powder, and sugar with your fingertips.
2. Add the eggs
3. Add the Buttermilk and knee the dough
4. It's very sticky; add some flour to your hands.
5. After you knee the dough, you can Roll the balls and place them in a greased pan.
6. Bake for 1 hour at 165 grade Celsius.
7. When baked, you can cut the Rusks into slices.
8. The Rusks are very brittle, don't cut too small.
9. Pack your Rusks on an oven rack to dry out, and set the oven to 50 Celsius on circulating air.
Tips:
The Rusks are very brittle, don't cut too small.
You can break the balls apart from each other, but I like to cut mine.
Pack your biscuits on an oven rack to dry out.
